The House
Khanfous Retreat is a holiday home located in a rural village near Asilah. It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen-living-dining area and is surrounded by a garden.
Built in 2012, it has been designed to melt into its surroundings. We used locally sourced materials where possible (mostly mud and stone) and employed villagers for its construction. We aim to follow the principals of sustainable tourism, which include respecting the environment and giving back to the community.
This holiday house comfortably accommodates 8 people. It is light and spacious and each of the rooms have windows with views of the ocean or surrounding countryside. There is no internet or phone signal in the village, which means you have the chance to truly disconnect.
From it’s vantage point in the centre of the village you are reminded of the benefits of the simple life, as you watch the animals passing on their way to the fields to graze, see the women collecting the water from the well and observe the smoke cloud coming from the handmade bread ovens that dot the hills.
Beyond the village, looking towards the Atlantic Ocean, you will see two beautiful beaches which can be reached by foot (40 minutes walk through the countryside) or by car.
There are no cars, roads, shops or restaurants. We provide plenty of drinking water and our housekeeper Nazirah will prepare breakfast and dinner for you. The roads and paths aren’t tarmacked, so please be aware it can be difficult to get around when it rains.

Each of the spaces have been decorated to reflect the local environment or the traditional style of the village. Handwoven textiles, reclaimed windows and doors and antique ornaments have been carefully used to create an authentic and aesthetically beautiful spaces.

There is no wifi and no phone signal in the house. To get coverage you need to walk up a hill or along the main road.
